Romanian inventor Corneliu Birtok-Băneasa received the gold at the Brussels – Eureka competition, which took place between November 15 and 17. The Romanian was awarded for inventing and introducing on the market an air filter which helps reduce gas consumption by up to 12 percent. The product will start selling on the Romanian market in less than a month.

Birtok-Băneasa also received a special award ARCA offered by the delegation of inventors from Croatia. The Romanian, based in Deva, worked for thousands of hours to produce the filter he had invented. He had to homologate it and find investors for his project. Production will start within a month, in Romania, where he wants to have control over the product. The air filter will most likely cost around RON 350 – some EUR 77. “The super-absorbing air filter F1 is designed to increase the volume of the filtered air available for feeding the internal combustion engine. This feature advantage result into an 8-9 percent increase in the engine power and up to 12 percent reduction in fuel consumption,” according to the project description.

The Brussels Eureka competition was part of the Innova, the world exhibition on inventions research and new technologies. Romania was present with 34 inventions in the competition. More details here.

The Romanian previously received awards at other international inventions fairs, such as the Geneva inventions fair in 2010. The 32-year old already has over 20 international awards for his inventions. He invented several air filters for cars already, for some of which he was previously awarded internationally.
