Romanian Government allots EUR 0.9 mln for the National Day celebration events

The Romanian Government has allotted RON 4 million (some EUR 904,000) from the budget reserve fund for the National Day events to be organized by several national security institutions, reports local Hotnews.ro. Romania celebrates the National Day on December 1st.

The money will go to the Ministry of Defense, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Protection and Guard Service and the Romanian Gendarmerie.

The Romanian authorities have also announced that the December 1st military parade will not take place at the Arch of Triumph, where it’s usually held, as the monument is under renovation. Instead, the more than 2,000 soldiers involved in this year parade will march in front of the Parliament’s Palace, in Bucharest’s city center, according to Digi 24 news station.

Military ceremonies to mark Romania’s National Day will be organized this year in all the country’s major cities.

For Romanians, December 1st is the Great Union Day. On this day in 1918, during the reign of King Ferdinand I, Romania, which was made of Moldova and Wallachia at the time, – was united with Transylvania, Crisana, Banat and the Maramures regions.

The unification happened in Alba Iulia, were the unification declaration was read during a public event, attended by over 100,000 Romanians. The declaration was read by Vasile Goldis, Romanian academician and politician.
