Romanian Government plans to liberalize notary tariffs

22 February 2012

The Romanian Government recently adopted a memorandum for a pilot project that aims to liberalize tariffs on public notaries, and to foster stronger competition between notary offices, according to the Minister of Justice, Catalin Predoiu (in picture).

Up until March 6 the Ministry of Justice will identify the notarial papers and proceedings subject to the pilot project. The bill will be drafted by April 2012 and then be updated in the next 6 to 12 months.

The elimination of minimum fees could be applied to all categories of services provided by notaries and replaced with a reference price, if the pilot project proves successful, added Catalin Predoiu.

The project will be carried out over a year in collaboration with the Competition Council and the National Union of Public Notaries.
