Romanian graduates abroad flock to answer Basescu's call for presidential advisers

16 January 2012

Around 290 young Romanian university graduates, mostly having graduated abroad, submitted applications to become presidential advisers, after Romanian president Traian Basescu said the presidency was looking for young Romanian graduates to fill the positions. Basescu will meet those selected from the applicants on Monday, January 16.

The president admitted Romanians tend to stay abroad after finishing their studies because of the low level of salaries in Romania, but said of the adviser positions, “The president can call you anytime to talk about anything in the world and in the country, because he wants an idea. What he does with the idea, is his affair, but presidential adviser is an important job.”
