Romanian hauliers to protest in Brussels against protectionism
Romanian hauliers and their trade union (UNTRR) will attend the protest organized in Brussels, on January 10, against the so-called Mobility Package 1.
UNTRR argues the provisions, as preliminary agreed by the EP, are restrictive and protectionist, local Wall-street.ro reported.
On January 10, 2019, the European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) will vote on the three key proposals of the Mobility Package 1. Later, the provisions will be passed during the EP plenary session of January 14-17 2019.
The Mobility Package 1 was published by the European Commission on May 31, 2017, and includes critical proposals for amending European legislation in the field of road transport, such as the proposal for a special law for the application of the Posting Directive no. 71/1996 on road transport. The provisions also include the proposal for revising Regulation 561/2006 on driving and rest time for professional drivers.
On December 3, 2018, the EU Council of Transport Ministers adopted its position (general approach) on the Mobility Package 1, based on the restrictive proposals of the Western European Union Alliance for Road Traffic, whereby Romanian carriers, together with the other Eastern carriers, claim that they “are sent at home”, through restrictive road transport measures in the European Union.
