Romanian insurer could pay EUR 3.5 mln damages to car accident victim
Local insurer Uniqa has to pay EUR 3.5 million worth of damages to a woman badly hurt in a car accident, according to a decision of the Neamt Court.
The company has challenged the decision in court. If the Court of Appeal Bacau confirms the initial sentence, this case could set a new record among damages paid on the local insurance market following a car accident, reports local Profit.ro.
The woman who might get these record damages was paralyzed in a car accident. Her mother, who was driving the car, had a mandatory car insurance RCA issued by Uniqa. The insurer might also have to pay for the victim’s recovery and medication costs, which amount to RON 13,000 (almost EUR 3,000) per month.
According to the law, the RCA law covers compensation for moral damages or injury of up to EUR 5 million.
