A Romanian inventor has won gold at the Geneva International Inventions Show for a device which reduces fuel consumption by over 5 percent for trucks and buses.

Corneliu Birtok-Băneasă, who has won numerous medals for his other inventions, already tested his invention in the last three years in his home town of Deva, according to Agerpres. Tests have shown a drop in fuel consumption of 5 to 7 percent. The device is currently being tested on buses in Alba – Iulia.

A team of four jury members, all specializing in the car industry decided to award the Romanian the gold medal.

The Romanian also got the Best Innovation Award from the delegation of inventors in Hong Kong.

The Geneva Inventions Fair took place between April 2 and 6. This was Birtok-Băneasă's sixth attendance at the fair, having won the gold in 2010, 2012 and 2013, silver in 2009 and bronze in 2011. He is known for having invented an air filter which helps reduce gas consumption by up to 12 percent.
