Romanian managers expect increases in industry, constructions

01 March 2017

Managers of companies in Romania expect an increase in the activity in industry, construction, and services between February and April.

Meanwhile they expect a stagnation in the number of employees in the three sectors, according to a press release issued yesterday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

In the retail sector, both the activity and employment will decrease during this period, managers expect.

The data shows some changes from the previous report on economic trends, published at the end of December, which indicated a downturn in trade and a steep decline in construction for January to March. Between February and April, the only negative short-term conjectural balance will remain in trade, reaching -17%, up from the previous report (-22%).

Conjectural balance reflects the difference between positive and negative expectations expressed by the interviewed managers.

Managers are optimistic about the activity in construction, with a short-term balance of +13% (compared to -22% in the previous report). The activity in industry should also increase until April, with a balance of 12% (compared to +3% in the previous report).
