Romanian media: OTE to name Stefanos Theocharopoulos head of Cosmote and Romtelecom

Landline operator Romtelecom and mobile telephony operator Cosmote, both controlled by the Greek group OTE in Romania, will be led by Stefanos Theocharopoulos (in picture), currently the CEO of Cosmote, according to Ziarul Financiar, quoting sources on the market.

Stefanos Theocharopoulos holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Sussex, holding a Master of Science degree in Mobile Communications and Satellite Communications from the University of Westminster. He joined OTE Group in 2002 and was appointed CEO of Cosmote Romania in January 2008. Before joining the OTE Group, Stefanos Theocharopoulos held managerial positions in companies such as O2 Germany, Dutchtone Netherlands, Vodafone Greece, Fujitsu Telecom Research Center UK and Ericsson Hellas,Greece.

The decision could be announced with the publication of financial results by the OTE group, according to Ziarul Financiar. The decision must also be passed by representatives of the Ministry of Communications, which have three votes in Romtelecom's Board of Directors. The Romanian state still holds a 46 percent stake in Romtelecom.
