Romanian minister: Reactors 3 and 4 will be included in the energy strategy

13 October 2016

The project for building the reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda nuclear plant will be part of Romania’s energy strategy, because over EUR 1 billion has already been invested in this project, energy minister Victor Grigorescu said yesterday.

He said that Romania has room for nuclear energy and for the reactors 3 and 4 in almost all scenarios, reports local Agerpres.

He added that there is already infrastructure in which the state has invested for this project.

“It’s one of the resources whose exploitation strengthens our energy security, because we have a nuclear integrated cycle, even if not complete, with North-American technology. We are the only ones in the region that have this technology and the ability to still be independent from this point of view,” the minister said.

However, coal will remain an important resource in the energy mix, Grigorescu added.
