Romanian movie awarded at Berlinale 2019
Monstri. (Monsters.), the first feature film by Romanian director Marius Olteanu, won the Tagesspiegel Readers’ Jury Award at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival.
The movie was screened in the festival’s Forum section.
Berlin-based national daily newspaper "Tagesspiegel" has awarded a Readers' Prize at the Berlinale since 2007. The jury consists of nine members and the prize is given to the best film in the Forum.
“This prize means a lot because it comes from the public. And the fact that the movie, following the spectators’ reactions and the prizes for which it was nominated (the debut award and the Teddy Award), has benefited from 4 additional screenings, makes me hope that people will also come to watch it in Romania. It’s a movie that speaks about couples at a micro level, about what we live these days in society, about the need to reach the other, to understand him and not be indifferent,” Marius Olteanu said.
