Romanian NASA competition winner lacks money to present his project abroad

10 April 2015

A Romanian student who won the third place in a NASA competition and who should go to an international conference in Canada to present his winning project, does not have the money for the trip.

The student, Alexandru George Ghinea, an 11th grader from the Tudor Vianu high school in Bucharest, created a space settlement design project which has a capacity of over 3,000 people, and which would allow them to live in an artificial space on Earth.

This project brought him the third place in the NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Contest 2015, according to Mediafax. The Romanian was one of the 1,000 who submitted projects in the competition.

He should present his project in Toronto, in May, at the International Aerospatial Development Conference. However, his high school does not have the funds to send the student to Canada, and he also lacks the resources to pay for transport, accommodation and meals there, according to Mediafax newswire. Total costs would reach some EUR 3,000. Ghinea's e-mail address is type2space@gmail.com.

Ghenea is not the only internationally-awarded Romanian students who do not have the money to attend various events abroad, which would allow them to present their projects, and potentially land collaborations or even production deals.
