Romanian pan flute master Gheorghe Zamfir to perform at Jeux de la Francophonie in Nice
Famous Romanian pan flute performer Gheorghe Zamfir and his band will play during the Francophone Games in Nice in September, according to the Romanian Cultural Institute.
Apart from the Romanian folk music concert, the country will showcase traditional costumes via an exhibition of Romanian blouses – called ii - , pottery workshops, traditional carpets and small sculptures, including wooden icons.
The event, called Jeux de la Francophonie, started last weekend on September 7 and will end on September 14.
Held once every four years, the event is a combination of artistic and sporting events for the Francophonie, mostly French speaking nations.
At the previous edition in 2009, Romania got 24 medals, including 10 gold, four silver, and 10 bronze.
Gheorghe Zamfir is a famous Romanian composer and pan flute musician who has received 90 golden and platinum discs, released over 200 albums and sold over 40 million recordings. He is known worldwide as “The Master of the Pan Flute”.
