Romanian PC market down in 2016
The local PC market went down 10% in 2016, according to Mugur Pantaia, managing director of HP Inc. Romania, quoted in a Business Magazin analysis.
The local market is thus following the global decrease trend, where 260 million PCs, excluding hybrids such as iPad Pro or Surface Pro, were delivered worldwide, 5.7% less than in 2015, according to IDC data. Last year was the fifth consecutive decrease year for the global PC market, against the increasing popularity of smartphones and tablets.
According to Pantaia, HP Romania increased its local market share in 2016 to 18%, Business Magazin reported. Lenovo is the local market’s leader, with a constant share of 25%, according to Aurel Neţin, director & country general manager Lenovo Romania, quoted by the same source. According to Neţin, the local market sees some 700,000 units being sold yearly, and in 2016 it started to see a decline, as opposed to the constant evolution of the previous years.
Still, in the first quarter of this year, the PC market went up 0.6% worldwide, according to IDC data, quoted by Business Magazin. Some 60.3 million PCs were shipped worldwide in the first three months of the year, compared to 59.9 million in the similar period of 2016.
