Romanian Police fine over 500 drivers for lack of proper winter equipment

14 January 2013

The Romanian Police fined over 500 drivers last weekend across Romania, during a checkup of road-readiness of vehicles across the country. The police and RAR (Romanian Auto Registry) specialists will verify braking, steering systems and lights, as well as looking for unapproved accessories until January 20.

Drivers in Romania are obliged to equip their cars with winter tires, while cars weighting over 3.5 tonnes have to be equipped with non-slip equipment. If the car is not properly equipped, the car registration is confiscated and a fine of between RON 630 and RON 1,470 (around EUR 140 to EUR 326 ) is applied.
