Romanian politicians and famous business people, debtors to the state
The number of individuals with overdue tax debts dropped by 60,000 at the end of June compared to March 31.
Over 120,000 people still had fiscal debts totaling over EUR 670 million at the end of June, according to the tax agency ANAF. The debtors’ list includes politicians and well-known business people.
Robert Negoita, the mayor of Bucharest’s District 3, has a debt of almost EUR 52 million. Romanian investor George Becali, which owns the football club Steaua Bucharest, has a debt of over EUR 2.1 million. At the end of March, his debt totaled EUR 891,000.
MEP Daciana Sarbu, the wife of the former Prime Minister Victor Ponta, also has debts of about EUR 1,800. However, in spring, her debt amounted to over EUR 10,000. Former minister Elena Udrea owes the state over EUR 11,300.
Tax authorities publish a list with state debtors every quarter.
