Former deputy Viorel Hrebenciuc, his son Andrei Hrebenciuc, deputy Ioan Adam, senator Tudor Chiuariu, and 13 other people have been prosecuted by the National Anticorruption Directorate DNA in a case involving illegal forests restitution.

Hrebenciuc and Adam, together with investor Paltin Gheorghe Sturdza and businessman Dan Costin Bengescu allegedly set up a criminal group that wanted to make money by illegally recovering 43,000 hectares of forest in Bacau. They wanted to recover the forest from the state by trading influence or through abuse of office.
