Romanian Post, back in the red due to competition fine
The Romanian Post saw a turnover of EUR 239 million in 2015, down 4.2% compared to the previous year.
The company recorded EUR 7.3 million losses, compared to a net profit of EUR 5 million in 2014. The negative result was due to a fine from the Competition Council.
The net profit in 2014 was also influenced by the one-off revenues of EUR 10 million from the concession of the Post’s stamp collection to Romania’s National Bank (BNR). Without this transaction, the company would have posted EUR 376,000 losses, according to the Post’s annual report.
At the beginning of March this year, the operator announced that it earned a gross profit of EUR 4.2 million last year, due to expense cuts. However, one month later, the Competition Council announced that it sanctioned the Romanian Post with a EUR 7.4 million fine for failing to fulfil certain competition obligations.
