Romanian PostMaster makes almost EUR 10 mln from mailing publicity, awaits postal market liberalization

30 May 2012

Romanian PostMaster, partially owned by the Austrian Post, ended 2011 with a turnover of EUR 9.9 million and wants to up it by 10 percent this year, to some EUR 11 million.

With 1,700 distributors, 47 local offices and an annual capacity of 6,000 tones of post deliveries, PostMaster competes with the state owned Posta Romana on 80 percent of Romania's territory. “We are eagerly waiting for 2013 and the liberalization of the postal services market. We are ready to compete with Posta Romana on around 80 percent of the territory, serving around 95 percent of the population,”said Mihai Preotescu, managing partner PostMaster.

PostMaster currently distributes catalogs, brochures and fliers, where it controls most of the mail drop market, together with competitor Inbox Marketing. But the company wants to expand its existing distribution of addressed mail, new opportunities will open up in 2013, when this market segment is liberalized.

PostMaster sends around 500 million items of unaddressed mail, such as catalogs and brochures a year, 60 percent of the market segment.

The Romanian Post state company has a monopoly on mail below 50 grams.

PostMaster has been a member of Austrian Post Group since 2011. The Austrian company owns 26 percent of the Romanian subsidiary.
