Romanian poultry producer Transavia sets up two new cereal farms, invests EUR 5 mln in agricultural equipment

Romanian poultry producer Transavia has established two new local cereal farms, one located in Ciuguzel (Alba county) and one in Samboleni (Cluj county), and invested EUR 5 million in agricultural equipment for the two farms.

“The expansion of this division exceeded the investment budget announced for this year, while in the last seven years Transavia made total investments of EUR 60 million,” reads the company’s statement.

The company has two other cereal farms in Romania, in Spring (Alba county) and Rediu (Cluj county), both opened in 2011.

For 2014, Transavia’s target is to cultivate over 15,000 hectares of agricultural land in order to provide 100 percent of the required grains to feed the birds. The company also plans to establish new crops next year. The investments in cereal farms is a first among poultry producers in Romania, according to Transavia.

Transavia is one of the largest meet producers in Romania and employs some 1,500 people.

The company produces over 55,000 tons of chicken in meet in its farms located in Alba, Cluj, Sibiu, Brasov and Harghita counties.
