Romanian President receives gifts worth EUR 3,900 in 2016. What’s on the list?
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has received gifts with a total value of over RON 17,600 (some EUR 3,900) last year, the most expensive of all being a silver dagger with a sheath engraved with oriental motifs, estimated at RON 2,225 (around EUR 500).
Among the gifts Klaus Iohannis received last year there was also a silver Madonna with Child icon, plated with gold, with Swarovski crystals (estimated at some EUR 300), a tapestry made by craftsmen in Ukraine (around EUR 346), a Bible in Romanian, with covers made from olive wood and mother-of-pearl (some EUR 100), a silk scarf with images of Hagia Sophia (EUR 30), a photo with the autograph of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg (EUR 50), and custom made cufflinks (EUR 50), according to the list published by the Presidential Administration, cited by local Agerpres.
The list also includes a set of cufflinks and brooch, made from fine French china, white (EUR 100), a set made of a tricolor bow tie and two metallic badges (EUR 25), and a photo with the autograph of former Romanian tennis ace Ilie Nastase (EUR 30). The Romanian President also received a letter from the King of Romania to Sultan Abdulhamid II, sent on August 31, 1887, which is estimated at some EUR 100.
The list of gifts includes several other paintings, decorative objects, a bayonet, flags, posters, and photographs.
President Iohannis has received a total of 59 objects during protocol actions last year, which have remained in the heritage of the Presidential Administration.
