Romanian President: Romania could export EUR 50 billion worth of food products in the future
Romanian President Traian Basescu (in picture) invited political parties in Romania to sign this September a pact for agricultural development for the period 2014-2030, which will take over the objectives of the presidential commission’s report, recently released for public debate.
“I invite political parties, after completing the adoption process of this report, to all sign - parties and institutions, producers and beneficiaries- the pact for agriculture. It would be a long-term political commitment, because that was the meaning of the commission’s work, to create a vision by 2030, based on the 2014-2020 financial exercise of the European Union,” said Traian Basescu at the presentation of the Strategic National Framework for Sustainable Development of the Agricultural and Rural Area in the period 2014 - 2020 - 2030. The President added that this report will be under public debate for 30 days. During this time, politicians or people involved in agriculture can propose changes.
Traian Basescu also said that the strategy includes “ambitious and possible” objectives and Romania could “export food products worth EUR 40 billion to EUR 50 billion”, adding that the country’s total exports for 2012 were of EUR 53 billion.
“This is a document which, in my opinion, besides being an excellent scan of the Romanian agriculture, gives some perspective,” said Traian Basescu. In the President’s opinion, this is the best strategic document for agriculture, food industry and rural area that was conducted after the 1989 revolution.
