Romanian producer of Golden Bear winning film gets Eurimage prize for co-production
Romanian film producer Ada Solomon has received the Eurimage prize for co-production for 2013. Solomon will receive her prize at an awards ceremony in Berlin on December 7, during the European Film Awards Ceremony.
She landed the European prize for “ precious contribution to the success of European cinema and in particular cinematographic co-production”.
Since setting up her own company HiFilm, Ada Solomon has produced award-winning shorts by Cristian Nemescu (Marilena from P7) and Radu Jude (The tube with a hat), debut features by Radu Jude (The happiest girl in the world), Paul Negoescu (A month in Thailand), and documentaries by Alexandru Solomon (Kapitalism – our improved formula), among others.
She has produced the Eurimages-supported film Best Intentions by Adrian Sitaru, winner of two awards at the Locarno IFF 2011 and of two Romanian Gopos Awards, as well as Everybody in our family by Radu Jude. Her most recent achievement was producing the Berlin – awarded Child's Pose, which snatched the Golden Bear in 2013.
She is currently developing the docu-science-fiction Tarzan's Testicles by Alexandru Solomon, as well as Radu Jude's third feature Aferim!.
Solomon is also Head of Distribution at Parada Film and Executive Director of the NexT IFF Bucharest. She teaches at the National Film School in Bucharest and, together with Tudor Giurgiu, manages 3 mini-plex cinemas in Romania. More about her here.
Eurimages is a support fund for cinema co-production, theatrical distribution, exhibition and digital equipment for cinema theatres, established by the Council of Europe in 1988. Eurimages has supported over 1,500 films so far, for a total amount of EUR 468 million.
