Romanian IT community TechLounge was among the 37 winners of this year’s Google RISE Awards. TechLounge will receive a USD 25,000 financing for one of its projects, which is called “IoT4Girls”.

The TechLounge organisation aims to promote computer sciences among high school students as an alternative for their careers. This particular project, “IoT4Girls” encourages girls to develop applications for wearable gadgets, such as smart wristbands and smartphones.

Google RISE Awards is a competition that awards grants to organisations across the globe that promote computer science education and run initiatives that reach girls, underrepresented minorities, and students facing socio-economic barriers under age 18. This year, Google awarded grants totalling USD 1.5 million through this competition.

Since Google launched this competition worldwide, in 2011, at least one Romanian project was on the winners’ list each year.
