Romanian prosecutors ask for higher sentences in judge bribery case
Romania's National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors have asked Bucharest Court judges for punishments above the limit prescribed by law for several businessmen and former judges currently on trial.
Prosecutors have asked for higher punishments for businessmen Dan Adamescu and Iosif Armas and magistrates Mircea Moldovan, Ion Stanciu, Elena Roventa and Sorin Viziru, for intervention in insolvency cases, reports local Wall-street.ro.
The DNA prosecutors have indicted the businessmen and the four judges in June 2014. Adamescu is accused of allegedly giving an EUR 20,000 bribe to the judges order to receive favourable sentences in two insolvency cases.
Adamescu owns Unirea Shopping Centers in Bucharest and Brasov and insurer Astra Asigurari, among others.
