Romanian public television’s debts to be paid from state budget
The debt of the Romanian public television TVR to The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will be labeled as “public debt” and will be paid from the state budget, according to official sources cited by local Mediafax.
The Government will change the current law via an emergency ordinance that will allow to pay the public television’s debt from the state budget without being considered a state aid.
Following the non-payment of debts, TVR wasn’t able to take part in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest and lost access to other EBU member services including the Eurovision News and Sports News Exchanges. EBU represents an alliance of public service media entities.
