Romanian seaside chosen by 1.5 mln Romanians who spent EUR 270 mln during summer

04 September 2012

Over 1.5 million Romanians went to the Black Sea coast this year, an increase of 15 percent on the same period in 2011, according to the Federation of Tourism Employers in Romania. Romanians spent some EUR 270 million on the seaside, with an average spend of RON 200 – or some EUR 44 a day.

Around EUR 110 million was spent without being registered in accounting, on the so called black market, according to the Federation's estimations. The number of tourists who used the so called black accommodation was at some 660,000 this year, increasing tax evasion on Romania's seaside.

After three years of crisis, Romanians are more comfortable to spend on holidays, but they choose domestic destinations, while having slashed their length of stay, from a previous 6 to 12 days, to a prolonged week-end, 3 to 4 or 5 days.
