Romanian sector of the Danube polluted for over two weeks
Chemicals allegedly from the industrial site of the Forsev company have been leaking into Danube’s Romanian sector at Drobeta Turnu Severin, according to Cristian Mura, director of the Mehedinti Water Management System (SGA), quoted by local news agency Agerpres.
Danube’s pollution was noticed on December 24, 2013. According to Mura, the pollution couldn’t be stopped despite all the actions taken to neutralize and limit its effects, so workers of SGA Mehedinti had to cover the area with biodegradable substances.
“Following verifications, we found that the chemicals, which seem to be light liquid fuel used in thermal power plants, come from Forsev factory’s drainage channel used for wastewater discharge,” said Cristian Mura.
However, Forsev manager Emil Vamvu said that the chemicals don’t belong to Forsev because the company temporarily ceased its activities on December 20, 2013.
