20 March 2015

Vector, the first smartwatch developed by a Romanian team, launched at the Baselworld 2015 watch fair on Thursday, March 19.

Vector aims to compete with Android Wear and Apple Watch in the growing smart wearable segment by offering 30 days of battery life, in addition to a classic design and a simple interface.

The smartwatch is already available for pre-orders in two versions, Luna, which costs USD 349, and Meridian, which sells for USD 199.

Vector runs on an original operating system which is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows smartphones.

The company that developed Vector was founded in 2013 by three Romanian entrepreneurs: Andrei Pitis, Irina Alexandru and Dan Tudose. In 2014, Romanian businessman Radu Georgescu, the owner of the GeCad group, joined their project as an investor.

Joe Santana, the former CEO of Dutch watchmaker Timex, joined VectorWatch as CEO. Steve Jarvis, a former designer for Timex and Nike, also works on the project.

Michele Tessaro, VectorWatch CFO, says the company aims to sell one million smartwatches in 2016, according to Romanian watch magazine Temporis.
