Romanian students make human chain to inaugurate new library in Timisoara

13 November 2014

The new building of the Polytechnic University Library in Timisoara, Western Romania, was inaugurated after an investment of EUR 11.4 million carried out with money from the state budget.

The inauguration was marked in an original way, over one thousand students forming a human chain around the new building, passing from hand to hand the last one hundred books from the old library, reports local Mediafax.

It took about six months to move the library’s approximately 700,000 books to the new building.

“We’ve invested some EUR 11 million and we’re approaching the end. We’ve opened the library today but hopefully, with support from the authorities, the entire building will be operational next year,” said university rector Viorel Serban, cited by Mediafax.

According to him, work on the new library started eight years ago and it’s not yet fully completed as facilities for the space where conferences will be held are still needed.
