Romanian tax inspectors will see their risk bonus massively reduced
Romania’s National Fiscal Administration Agency (ANAF) reduced the bonus for risk and neuropsychiatric strain for its employees from 25% to 5% of the base salary through an order that came into force on March 1.
The bonus was cut because the institution’s budget was reduced by 4.6% this year compared to the 2016 level. ANAF doesn’t have enough funds to pay this bonus.
Unions complained that the decision was not justified as the risks tax inspectors face in combating fraud has increased. In the previous years, the tax inspectors received a stress and risk bonus of 25% of the base salary.
Union president Sebastian Oprescu said that the bonus shouldn’t have been reduced. Quite the opposite, he is asking for extending the application of the bonus for the other institutions with control tasks such as the Consumer Protection, the Labor Inspection, and the National Environment Guard.
The decision to reduce the risk bonus for the ANAF inspectors was related to the poor budget execution in the first two months of the year. In January, the revenues of the budget reached RON 19.2 billion, down 5.2% compared to the same months in 2015.
Ionut Dumitru, president of the Fiscal Council said on Sunday that the Government would need to take measures if the budget revenues didn’t improve by the end of March.
