Romanian teams return with nine medals from international informatics competitions

Romania got nine medals at two recent regional informatics competitions, both of which took place in neighboring Bulgaria between November 22 and 24. Romanian students got the gold and three silver medals at the Balkan Olympiad for Informatics for Juniors.

Costin Andrei Oncescu, a sixth grader from Câmpulung Muscel, in Arges county, returned home with the gold from this Olympiad, after getting the gold last year too. Smaranda-Monica Dicu, Darius Marian and Andrei-Cristian Stanciu, all eight graders from Bucharest, got the three silver medals.

The International Informatics Tour, which took place at the same time in Bulgaria brought five medals for Romania: gold, three silver, and bronze. An eight grader from Constanta, George Chichirim, was awarded the gold, while silver went to Vlad Rochian, eight grade, from Timisoara, Andrei Popa, eight grade, from Vaslui, and Mihai Gheorghe, 11th grade from Bucharest. The bronze went to Daniel Constantin, another 11th grader from Bucharest.
