Over 120,000 Romanian tourists spend EUR 5.5 mln at the seaside in the first weekend of September
Over 120,000 Romanians spent EUR 5.5 million in local seaside resorts, in the first weekend of September, according to the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR).
The large number of tourists exceeded the hotel owners’ expectations. The occupancy rate was as high as during the top season, reports local Agerpres. This was also due to the high temperatures in Romania, as the country was under a code yellow for heat last week. The temperatures have already started to drop at the beginning of this week, which means that probably the number of tourists at the seaside will also decline.
The “Seaside for all” (Litoralul pentru toti) social programme sold almost 6,150 discounted accommodation places in seaside hotels and guest houses this year, namely 90% of the total places, compared to a 70% rate last year. The programme provides lower accommodation tariffs by up to 60% and takes place between September 31 and October 11.
