Romanian Transport Minister: EUR 9,000 salary for CFR Marfa manager is correct, good pay trigger performance
Romanian Transport Minister Relu Fenechiu recently stated that the EUR 9,000 monthly salary paid to the new director of Romania’s railway freight company - CFR Marfa is correct, given that, in three months, he has managed to close new contracts worth RON 90 million (some EUR 20 million).
“The manager of CFR Marfa, since he came, managed to bring contracts of RON 90 million, in three months. For such a person, compared to the previous director, who in four years failed to bring even one contract for CFR, I consider that the EUR 9,000 salary is correct,” said Relu Fenechiu, quoted by local news agency Mediafax. Moreover, the Romanian Ministry of Transport stated that good salaries are important “otherwise we will never have performance”.
The Romanian Government published last week a list with the allowances paid monthly to state-owned companies’ managers and board members. According to this data, managers of the state-owned companies in Romania get monthly allowances between EUR 2,500 and over EUR 14,000, while the salaries paid monthly to board members are between some EUR 30 and EUR 7,300.
The highest monthly allowance for a manager of a Romanian state-owned company is found at railways company CN Cai Ferate CFR SA – of EUR 14,583, followed closely by the salary received by the general manager of the Romanian Post – Posta Romana, of EUR 14,280.
