Romanian Transport Ministry’s control body checks state-owned airline

17 February 2016

The Transport Ministry’s control body went to the Romanian state-owned airline Tarom to check why the company’s flights register delays of up to 2-3 hours, Transport Minister Dan Costescu said yesterday.

The Transport Ministry has also asked the state-owned airline to come up with a short-term plan to remedy the company’s situation.

Tarom’s fleet is obsolete, Costescu said, reports local Mediafax.

“We have 23 heterogeneous aircraft. There are different brands of aircraft, each with 2-3 types of aircraft. This creates big maintenance difficulties,” the Minister added.

The Ministry has also initiated a procedure to procure consultancy for restructuring, Costescu said.
