Romanian treasure hunt film joins New York Film Festival lineup
Comoara (The Treasure), the latest film by Romanian Corneliu Porumbiou, is part of the Main Slate official selection of the 53rd New York Film Festival. The event will be organized between September 25 and October 11.
Earlier this year, The Treasure won a special prize at Cannes festival – Un Certain Talent, within the Un Certain Regard section. The movie tells the story of Costi, a Romanian who works at the City Hall and lives a quiet life. One evening, a neighbor asks him to borrow him some money. Costi hesitates and then refuses his neighbor’s request, as this might jeopardize his peace at home. However, the neighbor returns and tells him about a legend in his village: it is said that his grandfather has buried a treasure in the backyard, before the Communists took the power. The two go treasure hunting together. Watch the trailer below.
“Porumboiu is one of the subtlest artists in movies, and this is one of his wryest films, and his most magical,” shows the film festival’s website.
A total of 26 films were selected for the festival’s Main Slate, including Steven Spielberg’s latest movie Bridge of Spies.
