Romanian women’s epee fencing team wins European championship

The Romanian women’s epee fencing team, formed by Anca Maroiu, Ana Maria Branza, Simona Alexandru, and Loredana Iordachioiu, defeated Russia in the final of the European Fencing Championships on July 19 in Sheffield, with the score 45-31. World champion in 2010, Romania has now the second European title, after the one won in 2009.

Romania's representatives have reached the final stage of the competition after beating Denmark with the score of 45-27, winning against Hungary in the quarters with 43-37, then defeating France in the semi-finals.

Romania's male sword team, composed of Florin Zalomir, Tiberiu Dolniceanu, Rares Dumitrescu, and Cosmin Hanceanu, missed the bronze medal at the European Fencing Championships in Sheffield, after they were defeated by a score of 45-36 by the Russian team.
