Romanian-Bulgarian-German consortium wins contract for new sewage treatment plants in Galati

30 April 2013

The local water utility in Galati has awarded a EUR 9.57 million contract to a group of companies, including German, Bulgarian and Romanian firms, to upgrade sewage treatment infrastructure in the Galati area, Eastern Romania. Romanian firm Tancrad leads the winning consortium, which also includes Glavbolgarstroy (Bulgaria), Biogest International (Germany) and another local company Escalia Craus.

The main sites of work will be Pechea and Liesti, both in Galati County, and will involve building new water treatment plants at the two locations. The Pechea plant will have a 15,615 liter capacity, while the Liesti unit's capacity will be 27,005 liters. Both will employ an extended aeration treatment system and will remove nitrates and phosphates from the water. The winning consortium will be responsible for the design and the construction of the new facilities.

The winning offer was lower than the initial estimated value of the contract, which was just under EUR 10.5 million, according to the EU's Electronic Tenders Daily (TED).

All four companies operate in construction and engineering. The German firm Biogest International specializes in the design and construction of water treatment infrastructure and has worked on projects in China, Indonesia, Syria and many countries in Europe.
