Romanians abroad send EUR 2.1 bln home
Romania ranked third in the European Union in 2013 regarding the balance of personal transfers, with EUR 1.755 billion, being surpassed only by Portugal (EUR 3.6 billion) and Poland (EUR 2.6 billion), according to data presented by the European Statistics (Eurostat).
In 2013, flows of money sent by EU28 residents to a non-EU country, referred to as personal transfers, amounted to EUR 28.3 billion, while inflows to the EU28 totaled EUR 10.3 billion.
The majority of personal transfers consist of flows of money sent by migrants to their country of origin.
Among the Member States, the outflows of personal transfers were highest in France (EUR 8.9 billion), Italy (EUR 6.7 billion) and the United Kingdom (EUR6.3 billion), while the highest inflows were recorded in Portugal (EUR 5 billion), Poland (EUR 2.8 billion), the United Kingdom (EUR 2.3 billion), Romania (EUR 2.1 billion) and Italy (EUR 2.0 billion).
