Romanians can’t log off from the internet during holidays
Almost three-quarters (73%) of Romanians use the internet while on holiday and almost half (48%) say that the internet is essential in planning their holidays, according to a recent survey by online payment processor PayPal and market research company GfK.
Some 70% of Romanians use the internet to find holiday offers and 68% look for information about the destinations they will visit.
The internet access is also one of the top three factors for Romanians when deciding where to get accommodation for the holidays. Some 85% of Romanians decide on their holiday accommodation based on price, 69% take into consideration the positive reviews and comments on the internet about the place, and 59% want to have Wi-Fi internet connections available there.
Most Romanians use the internet during their holidays to check maps and itineraries (36%), to keep in touch with their friends or family via social media (26%), or to find the best restaurants or touristic attractions (25%). Some also want to keep in touch with their work.
According to the survey, only a third of Romanians (32%) have already been on holiday this year, some 19% are waiting for the special offers in September while 10% plan to go on holiday in October-December.
Most Romanians take two-week vacations and allot a budget of up to EUR 500 for all holiday-related expenses.
The 21st Century Consumer on Vacation study was carried out by GfK for PayPal in August 2015, in Poland, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic. A total of 1,200 internet users over 18 participated in the survey.
