The value of credit card transactions increased by 7.6 percent in the first three months of the year, to RON 1.12 billion (EUR 248 million), according to data from the country’s central bank BNR. The increase was even higher in the case of certain banks, of 19 percent, reports local Capital.ro.

Increases in the number and value of credit card transactions were recorded both in 2013 and in the first part of this year. Thus, in 2013, their number increased by over 15 percent to 31.5 million, while their value also recorded a growth of some 13 percent, to RON 4.73 billion (over EUR 1 billion).

This trend also continued in the first three months of this year, when the number of credit card transactions increased by 8.2 percent to a total of 7.89 million, while their value went up 7.6 percent. The upward trend is expected to continue this year.
