Romanians have recorded over 7,700 trademarks at the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) in 2015, compared to about 8,700 last year.

Most trademarks have been submitted in advertising, management, education, sport, and entertainment, but also in technology, software, and hardware development, reports local Profit.ro.

Romanian companies have avoided lately submitting trademarks that are similar to those of famous brands, said Paul Cosmovici, specialist in intellectual property.

Many companies want to register their trademarks at EU level or even further away, in countries such as the US or China, Cosmovici added.
