Romanians spent EUR 177 million last year on pet products, 4.8% over 2013.

About 96% of this amount was destined for pet food, according to a recent study by Euromonitor, cited by local Mediafax.

A Romanian spent EUR 25 on average for a pet in 2014, up 8.6% over the previous year.

The pet food market is estimated at EUR 170 million, EUR 116 million of which is dog food, EUR 52 million cat food and EUR 835,000 for others pets.

The pet care market increased by about 4.9% in 2014 and is expected to rise at the same rate in 2015, according to the Euromonitor study.
