Romanians spend more on New Year's Eve in their home country than abroad

Over 161,000 Romanians spent about EUR 36.4 million in the country and abroad on the 2015 New Year's Eve, according to a release from the Federation of the Romanian Tourism Employers.

More than 152,000 Romanian spent the New Year's Eve in their home country, up 38% from the last year, and spent about EUR 31.5 million, 51% more than the previous year.

Nearly 9,000 Romanians traveled abroad to spend the winter holidays, down 12% compared to 2014. They spent about EUR 4.8 million, down by more than 8% over the previous year.

The number of Romanians who chose to spend the holiday abroad went down compared to last year, while the number of those who  chose tourist destinations in Romania significantly increased, according to the analysis run by the Federation.
