Romania's beer market grows by 6-7%, to over EUR 2 bln
The value of the local beer market exceeded EUR 2 billion last year, up 6-7% over the previous year, whereas the volume of beer sales recorded a very small increase of less than 1%.
“The net market value, namely the beer directly from the manufacturer, is estimated at EUR 1.2 billion, but if we also consider the retail then the market value is estimated at EUR 2 billion,” Shachar Shaine, president of the Romanian Brewers Association, told local News.ro.
The beer sales volume remained close to 15.8 million hectoliters, the level recorded in 2015. The consumption per capita stood at about 80 liters in 2016, similar to the previous year.
However, a new trend began to emerge on the market. People have started buying more beer in glass bottle to the detriment of beer in plastic (PET).
According to the association, the beer market brought an added value of EUR 860 million to the local economy in 2016.
