Romania’s biggest art event includes large exhibition dedicated to Romanian painter Stefan Luchian

15 April 2017

Art Safari Bucharest, the biggest art event in Romania, will return with a new edition between May 19 and June 18.

The highlight of this year’s edition of the event will be a large exhibition dedicated to Romanian painter Stefan Luchian, which will be the largest Luchian exhibition organized in Romania in 50 years.

The event’s Museum Pavilion will be dedicated to this special exhibition, which will be occasioned by the Luchian centennial (1916-2016), and will comprise works from more than 20 museums and private collections.

Meanwhile, the Central Exhibition of the Contemporary Art Pavilion, entitled Notes on a Landscape, will be curated by Belgian Wim Waelput, and will address the different types of message and social role of the Romanian artist.

The Galleries Pavilion will be the place where galleries from Romania and abroad will exhibit their works by rotation, thus giving the public the chance to see new artworks every week. Among the galleries to exhibit here, there will be Mobius Gallery (Bucharest), Galleri CC (Stockholm), Galeria 9 (Cluj), Galeria 3:e Våningen (Göteborg), Galeria Pilat (Bucharest), Atelier 030202 (Bucharest), and Kunstart Galerie (Bochum).

The event will also include special events for children, brought together under the Art Safari Kids 2017 program. There will be guided tours held by students from Lauder school, and workshops.

The program also includes Art Dialogue, which will include conferences, book launches, performances, and video projections to be attended by specialists from the European art world.

Art Safari 2017 will take place at Kretzulescu Galleries (next to the National Art Museum). Early bird one-day tickets cost RON 25 while the early bird subscriptions are being sold for RON 45. They can be purchased online here.

Last year’s edition of Art Safari took place at Dacia-Romania Palace between May 5 and May 15, and attracted some 25,000 visitors.
