Romania’s car production drops by 4.1% in ten months

19 November 2014

Romania’s national car production has dropped by 4.1% year-on-year, in the first 10 months of the year, as a consequence of Dacia’s decision to transfer the production of some Dacia models from Romania to Morocco, as well as because of lower demand for Ford’s B-MAX model.

Around 329,000 vehicles were produced in Romania, in the first ten months of this year, 4.1% less than in the same period in 2013. Of these, 283,500 were manufactured by Dacia, 45,800 by Ford and five units by Roman Brasov, according to the Association of Car Makers and Importers of Romania (APIA).

Romania currently has two car factories, one in Mioveni, next to Pitesti, belonging to local producer Dacia, which is part of Renault group, and the other one in Craiova, which is owned by American group Ford. Roman Brasov produces trucks.
