Romania's central bank publishes Governor’s earnings in the last seven years
Romania’s National Bank (BNR) published the salaries of the bank’s management in the last seven years.
BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu had annual revenues of EUR 145,700-257,000 between 2009 and 2015.
The governor had net earnings of about EUR 145,700 in 2009, considering the average exchange rate in 2009, or about EUR 12,100 per month. In 2010, his wage dropped to EUR 141,400, or EUR 11,800 per month, as the Government cut the salaries of all public employees.
The governor’s earnings then increased to EUR 182,200 per year in 2011, EUR 181,200 in 2012, EUR 187,500 in 2013, EUR 216,800 in 2014, and EUR 257,000 last year. The revenues include both the salary, and other forms of income such as profit sharing.
The changes in Isarescu’s earnings were determined by external factors, such as the 25% drop in salaries in 2010 or the increase in net revenues in 2011 by capping the social contributions.
BNR has recently published the earnings of its senior managers in 2015, as a way to increase transparency. On August 4, Isarescu said that he has a monthly net gain of EUR 13,601. The National Integrity Agency (ANI) later showed that Isarescu’s gains amounted to over EUR 21,000 per month last year.
