Romania's Competition Council sanctions four times more companies
Romania’s Competition Council sanctioned 202 companies last year, 3.8 times more than the previous year. The total value of the fines amounted to EUR 53.9 million, according to the institution’s 2015 report.
The sanctions were 30% higher in 2015 compared to the previous year, and some 8% higher compared to 2012.
In 2015, the Council completed 21 investigations on a possible competition breach. The average duration of completed competition investigations is close to 5 years.
The Competition Council will focus on several important sectors this year. It plans to finish sectorial investigations in the drug distribution sector, in the electricity sector, and the access to fixed communication infrastructure in Bucharest (the Netcity project).
The institution must also finalize investigations on rigged tenders in the dairy, energy, and IT sectors.
