Romania’s convergence with the EU stagnated in recent years
Romania and other countries in the region didn’t make any progress in terms of economic convergence with the European Union between 2009 and 2014, according to local lender Banca Transilvania’ analysts.
Romania continues to lag behind other countries in the region, such as Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic, with a GDP per capita of only 27% of the EU average. The Czech Republic is the most advanced, as its GDP per capita is little over 50% of the EU average.
Countries in Central and Eastern Europe still face challenges on reforms, infrastructure, and regional economic integration, according to the analysis.
